2017 Creative Design Students Win Gold, Silver, and Honorable Mention in Scholastic Art Awards

The Creative Design class earned nine individual winning keys that include one Senior Portfolio Award. Established in 1923, the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards are the longest-running, most prestigious recognition program for creative teens in the U.S. The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (SMFA), in partnership with the Boston Globe is pleased to be among the more than 100 Regional Affiliates for the Awards in the United States. Our region, the nation's largest, serves the entire state of Massachusetts. Open to students from grades 7–12, The Scholastic Art Awards are the nation's longest-running, largest, most prestigious recognition program for creative teenagers in the visual and literary arts. Work is judged on originality, technical skill, and emergence of a personal voice or vision. All work is judged blindly, without knowledge of the student's gender, age or school.

There was an enormous volume of work to be judged in our region. The judges base their decisions on the three criteria:
  • Originality
  • Technical Skill
  • Personal Voice or Vision
This year five Creative Design students won the Scholastic Art Awards. Notable, one senior earned honors for his Art & Design Portfolio which included eight individual design pieces. Senior, Jahad Aubourg, received Silver Key + Honorable Mention awards for his Discrimination Posters. Senior, Callum Griffith, earned four awards - a Gold Key for his Anti-Discrimination Poster Series, a Silver Key for his MLK Day of Service Poster, a Silver Key for his Evolution Infographic, and Honorable Mention for his Art & Design Portfolio. As a Gold Key recipient, Callum's work will automatically entered into the National Judging. Senior, Lara Butera, received Honorable Mention for her Cambridge Compact Logo. Senior, Alec Nicholson, received Honorable Mention for a Photography Portrait. Junior, Julian Warburton, received a Silver Key for his Comic Book Design and Honorable Mention for his Cambridge Food & Nutrition Logo.
