MITOn December 4, 2014, two students from MIT’s Chapter of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) visited Cambridge Rindge & Latin School’s Rindge School of Technical Arts and spoke to two groups of freshman Exploratory and Level 1 Engineering students.

Emma Castanos and Teresa de Figuereido, both Sophomore undergraduate students majoring in Engineering at MIT and members of Engineering Chats, provided students with hands-on design-and-build activities and a slide presentation introducing students to the many career pathways in the field of Engineering. The pair then answered student questions about coursework and experiences that can lead to higher education and careers in Engineering.

The purpose of these school visits, according to both Castanos and de Figuereido, is to encourage all students -- especially young women and girls -- to pursue STEM education in order to promote learning, curiosity, and to position themselves for future success, as well as to build confidence in their abilities to use math and science.
