Senior DinnerOn the evening of May 10, seniors in the CRLS Class of 2017 gathered in the Media Cafeteria to celebrate the completion of their RSTA programs, many of them being awarded the Certificate of Occupational Proficiency, given to successful completers of Level 3 (advanced) courses in their respective majors. Families of the seniors, and almost all RSTA faculty members were present to recognize the students’ achievements.

Welcoming and congratulatory comments were made to the gathering by Cambridge Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Kenneth Salim, by Cambridge Mayor & Chair of the School Committee, E. Denise Simmons, and by School Committee members Fred Fantini and Emily Dexter.

“This is a wonderful event” said RSTA Executive Director, Dr. Mike Ananis, who initiated the annual Senior Dinner in 2005. “It is a time of great pride, seeing these young men and women achieve and grow in so many ways.”

The dinner itself – Parmesan crusted breast of chicken with fresh vegetable sides, followed by a scrumptious dessert table -- was prepared and served by sophomores and juniors in the RSTA Culinary Arts program, under the direction of their teachers Rick McKinney, Cathy Thomas, Mike Zuercher, and Michelle Walsh.
In his comments to the seniors, Dr. Ananis wished them future success, hoped that they would use their knowledge and skills for good and just purposes, and urged them to “live your lives bravely and boldly as people of good character.” All senior received a certificate appropriate to their accomplishments, and a framed photo of themselves and their classmates.

In all, 81 members of the CRLS Class of 2017 were recognized at the RSTA Senior Dinner: three for completing a special four year program in Creative Design, 63 for completing the standard three year program in Chapter 74 approved programs or majors, 12 for successfully completing two years of study in a RSTA major, and three for completing a series of three Business Ed courses.
