Dyslexia Awareness T-Shirt Competition

students holding designsStudents in the Creative Design class recently competed in the Dyslexia Awareness T-Shirt Competition sponsored by the Cambridge Public Schools OSS and Special Education PAC. The judging was based on originality and adherence to the contest guidelines which included designing a dyslexia t-shirt that helps raise awareness about dyslexia as the most common learning disability. The t-shirt should be affirming and show pride. The client hopes to also create other swag that raises awareness and that young people would wear and they wouldn’t be embarrassed for their parents to wear. The winning t-shirt image has the potential to appear on all marketing materials, social media, outreach materials. 

1 in 5 students has some form of dyslexia. As many as 17 percent of people show signs of reading challenges. Many successful people have it, and researchers have been studying it for over a century. It’s important to know that while dyslexia impacts learning, it’s not a problem of intelligence. Kids with dyslexia are just as smart as their peers. Dyslexia is a brain-based issue that makes it hard to learn to read accurately and fluently. Dyslexia is a lifelong condition. Kids don’t outgrow dyslexia, but with the right support, key skills can improve. Dyslexia is a common learning issue.
