This year Scholastic Art Awards received 15,000 submissions. Our Creative Design class earned 16 winning keys that include 4 Senior Portfolio Awards. Established in 1923, the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards are the longest-running, most prestigious recognition program for creative teens in the U.S. The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (SMFA), in partnership with the Boston Globe is pleased to be among the more than 100 Regional Affiliates for the Awards in the United States. Our region, the nation's largest, serves the entire state of Massachusetts. Open to students from grades 7–12, The Scholastic Art Awards are the nation's longest-running, largest, most prestigious recognition program for creative teenagers in the visual and literary arts. Work is judged on originality, technical skill, and emergence of a personal voice or vision. All work is judged blindly, without knowledge of the student's gender, age or school.

There was an enormous volume of work to be judged in our region. The 50 judges base their decisions on the three criteria:

  • Originality
  • Technical Skill
  • Personal Voice or Vision
